Reiki is most often translated as "universal life force energy" and is pronounced "Ray Key". It is a combination of two Japanese words - Rei which means "Spirit" or "Universe" and Ki which is "life force energy". Reiki is a natural, vibrational, hands-on healing practice which utilises the presence of universal life force energy that supports the body’s self healing ability. The system of Reiki was founded in Japan in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui and has been passed down from teacher to student since this time. It was introduced to the West in the mid-1900's by Hawayo Takata who was born in Hawaii of Japanese descent. Today Reiki is widely used throughout the world as both a self-help tool and to assist others in a multitude of situations from private practices to hospitals. Reiki SessionsProfessional sessions are offered by certified Reiki Practitioners as a complementary therapy and can be integrated into any plan to support improved health and wellbeing. One or a series of sessions may be required. Sessions involve the client lying down or sitting comfortably while fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands lightly on the body allowing a free flow of universal energy. It is often recommended you learn Reiki so you can treat yourself daily as well. Reiki ClassesThe ability to perform Reiki is passed on from teacher to student during a Reiki class that also teaches hand positions to use during treatments on yourself and others. Reiki has been successfully taught to thousands of people of all ages and backgrounds around the world. Reiki is taught in a series of three levels. There are three levels of Reiki training. Beginners start at 1st Level (Reiki One). At this introductory level the student can perform Reiki on themselves, family and friends and it is generally not regarded as a practitioner level. Level 2 (Reiki Two) further deepens the understanding of Reiki with new techniques introduced and the student may receive some clinical training and consider starting a professional practice. Reiki NZ Inc recommends that they obtain our guidelines for Professional Practitioner Membership. Level 3 (Reiki Three) may be divided into two parts. The first part (3A) teaches further techniques which considerably assist the students with their self-growth. The second part (3B) will train the student to become an independent Reiki Master/Teacher. |
